You can configure some of Stonefield Query Studio's behavior by changing settings in Settings.xml in the Data subdirectory. These settings look like this:

<settings>
    <setting name="SettingName" value="Value"
        type="Data type"/>
</settings>

Some of these settings are managed in the Options panel, available by clicking Options in the Studio Start Page. Others have to be changed manually by editing the XML file.

The settings are:

  • LoadLastProject: set this option to true if you want Studio to automatically open the project you had open the last time when it starts. This setting is managed in Options.

  • DisplayCaptions: setting this option to true displays the caption defined for an object after its name in Studio. For example, if you defined a caption of "Customers" for a table named ARCUST, it'll appear in Studio as "ARCUST (Customers)." This is especially useful if you aren't that familiar with the structure of the database. This setting is managed in Options.

  • CompanyName: this is the default setting of the Company Name configuration setting for new projects. This setting is managed in Options.

  • CompanyURL: this is the default setting of the Company Web Site configuration setting for new projects. This setting is managed in Options.

  • SupportEmail: this is the default setting of the Support Email configuration setting for new projects. This setting is managed in Options.

  • SalesEmail: this is the default setting of the Sales Email configuration setting for new projects. This setting is managed in Options.

  • SalesPhone: this is for future use.

  • SupportContactInfo: this is the default setting of the Support Contact Information configuration setting for new projects. This setting is managed in Options.

  • LogoImage: this is the default setting of the Logo Image File configuration setting for new projects. This setting is managed in Options.

  • ApplicationIcon: this is the default setting of the Icon File configuration setting for new projects.

  • RecentProjectCount: you can have as many Stonefield Query projects as you wish. The value of this option tells Studio how many to keep in its most recent list, displayed when you click the arrow beside the Open button in the toolbar. Note that the Recent Projects section in the Start Page displays a maximum of seven projects regardless of what this setting is set to. This setting is managed in Options.

  • DisplayNonReportable: you can specify that certain tables and fields are non-reportable, meaning the user won't see them in Stonefield Query. However, by default, they do appear in Studio. If you have a lot of non-reportable tables and fields, it can make the lists of those objects quite long and cluttered. Turn this option off to only see reportable tables and fields. You can, of course, turn this option on and off as required. This setting is managed in Options.

  • ProxyServer: if you use a proxy server to access the Internet, set this to the name or IP address of the proxy server. This is needed for online activation.

  • ProxyUserName: the user name to access the proxy server. This isn't required if user name and password aren't specified for the proxy server.

  • ProxyPassword: the password to access the proxy server. This isn't required if user name and password aren't specified for the proxy server.

  • UseOldGetDirDialog: on some older operating systems, the Open File dialog displayed when opening a project causes problems. Set this setting to true in that case.

  • DisplayDBLogin: this item is deprecated (it may not exist in your Settings.xml).

  • LaunchSQType: this indicates whether to launch the web or desktop version of Stonefield Query. Currently only "web" is supported.

  • IISPort: the IIS Express port to use when launching Stonefield Query from Studio. The default is 28377.

  • UseVirtualDirectory: set this setting to true to launch Stonefield Query from Studio using a virtual directory with a name of "SQ WEB". Set it to false to launch without a virtual directory.

  • UseSpecificBrowser: set this to true to use a specific browser when you launch Stonefield Query Enterprise Web or false to use your default browser. This setting is managed in Options.

  • BrowserToUse: set this to the name of the specific browser to use.

  • FieldsForRelations: this is the default value for field names when using the Find Possible Relations function.

  • RefreshRelations: set this to true to refresh relationships between tables when refreshing the data dictionary or false to not do that.
