Hi - We purchased Stonefield Query a short while ago for use with our Goldmine system. However, it is terribly slow - just short of 4 minutes - from the time SQ is launched until it connects to our Goldmine database. Both Goldmine and Stonefield are installed on the same Win 2003 server and accessed from reasonably fast Win XP Pro or Vista workstations. Thinking an update might help, I downloaded and installed SQ v 3.1, but there is no difference. The same delay occurs whether SQ is launched from within Goldmine or separately. Our sales secretaries are going bonkers! Any ideas will be appreciated.

Hello,

One possibility for the cause of this delay is that it is taking this length of time for Query to read in your GoldMine database customization. When Query connects to a GoldMine database, it needs to inspect the structure of the database to find any custom fields, detail types, and captions. This can take some time, depending on things like the size of the database, and the speed of the network connection.

To get some more information on this, we can have Query create some diagnostics. This will show the amount of time Query is using for different tasks in its startup process. To put Query into its diagnostic mode, create an empty text file called log.txt in Query's configuration data folder. The location for this data folder is listed on Query's About screen, which is available from the Help menu in Query.

With the log.txt file in place, you can restart Query, and allow it to connect to the database. Query will create a new file called diagnostic.txt in the same directory, and this diagnostic.txt file will contain the diagnostic information. If you send this diagonstic.txt file to us, we should be able to give a more precise explanation of where the time is being used.

You can email us this information at support@stonefieldquery.com . Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,

- Rob
