Hey guys, this doesnt specifically relate to stonefield, but there is no documentation anywhere about this question and Act, as is par for their couse, has absolutely abysmal service on their site.

Has anyone tinkered with the new 2008 dashboard layouts, adding custom components?  Does anyone know if these are made in crystal reports or if it's some proprietary thing?  Are there any resources that you use that might be helpful?

Thanks in advance
Travis

Hi Travis,

ACT! 2008 has a "Design Dashboards" option on the Tools menu. This allows you to create and modify dashboard layouts, using the existing dashboard components.

However, as far as I know the only way to create custom dashboard components is to use the ACT! SDK. The SDK is written in .NET, so to use it you need to write code in .NET to create your custom component. We haven't used the dashboard portion of the SDK, although we do use some other parts of the SDK for some functions in Stonefield Query for ACT!.

The SDK is available for download from the ACT! site. The link I have for it is http://www.act.com/partners/addonpartners/sdk/index.cfm . This is in the add-on partners section of the site, so the SDK may be available in other locations as well.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,

- Rob

Thanks for the reply Rob. That's mostly what I was looking for was what app/language did they use. .Net is a winner. The Dashboard Designer lets you edit some options for each component, but if you wanted to view all of your scheduled tasks, it only breaks out the three basic ones Call/Meeting/ToDo.
Thanks again!
Travis
