The Stonefield Query Configuration Utility is the tool a software developer or consultant uses to create a customized version of Stonefield Query for a particular application's data.
Running the Configuration Utility is easy: just double-click the Stonefield Query Configuration Utility icon on your Windows desktop. Alternatively, click the Start button in your Windows Taskbar, choose Programs, choose the program group you told the installation process to put Stonefield Query in, and choose Stonefield Query Configuration Utility.
What happens next depends on whether you have the demo version or a full-working version.
- If you have a demo version, it has all of the features of the full-working program, except it only functions for 30 days after running it for the first time. If you need more time to evaluate Stonefield Query, you can request that the demo period be extended another 30 days. You have to provide contact information (name, company, address, and so forth) and an email address to which an additional 30-day activation code can be emailed. Enter the activation code provided in the appropriate place on the dialog that appears every time you start Stonefield Query, and you can use the program for another 30 days.
- If your full-working copy of Stonefield Query isn't activated, you're informed of that and asked if you want to register your copy. If you click No, Stonefield Query runs in unactivated mode for up to 30 days after you run it for the first time. If you choose Yes, the Stonefield Query Registration dialog appears, allowing you to activate Stonefield Query. You can simply click the Cancel button to continue if you don't wish to activate it at this time. Please note that you must activate Stonefield Query within 30 days or it will stop working.

The Configuration Utility consists of a menu, a toolbar, a TreeView, a properties pane, and a status bar.
- The menu and toolbar provide functions such as creating a new Stonefield Query project, adding databases to the data dictionary, and launching Stonefield Query to test a project. A shortcut menu is also available.
- The TreeView has the following nodes:
- Databases, which displays the structures and other meta data for an application's databases
- Data Groups, which allows you to segregate your tables into specific groups or modules
- User Groups, which displays the roles used in role-based security
- Configuration, which provides customization settings
- Scripts, which allow you to code the exact behavior you require
- The properties pane shows the properties for the selected node in the TreeView.
- The status bar shows the location of the current Stonefield Query project, the currently selected object in the TreeView, and the status of certain operations, such as discovering meta data for a database.
Note that there is no "save" button to save changes made in the properties pane. Stonefield Query automatically saves any changes unless you specifically click the Revert button in the toolbar.
You can resize the Configuration Utility as desired. A splitter control between the TreeView and the properties pane allows you to control the relative widths of these items.
You can pass a parameter to the Configuration Utility, telling it to automatically open a particular Stonefield Query project. To do so, add "project=" followed by the directory where the Stonefield Query project files are located to the command line.
